Catalog work my not be as creative and inspiring as shooting toys, but it is always nice to help a growing business.  Single Industries is a clothing line that needed to images of their t-shirts, tanks, and hoodies on models.  You might want to check out http://www.singleindustries.com and get a stocking stuffer or two for a friend.

Do you remember playing on the floor in front of a fire with your toys on a rainy day? Albert Einstein said, “imagination is more important than knowledge.” I’d like to think he never stopped playing with toys, the toys just got more complex. I’m not tying to discourage you from curling up with a good book, but are you being more creative by playing or by absorbing someone else’s creative actions? So how do you shake off a cold rainy day?

Another example of toys being repurposed as art. 16×20 inch printed on metal.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane… it’s art.

My friends always ask me if taking images of beautiful women in a bikini or lingerie is my favorite part of being a photographer. I’m not going to lie, it doesn’t suck. However, my favorite projects are commissions to capture a child’s favorite toy.

We may have to be responsible as we get older, but we should never forget to play and have fun… and share your toys with others.

For action figures and plastic toys I normally suggest that the images are printed on metal. The metal prints give the color a real pop. For stuffed toys, a gallery wrap canvas give a nice soft look. Even if you don’t live in California, Nevada, Oregon, or Washington, I will accept toys to be shipped to me for an art shoot. After the images are captures I will be happy to ship every toy right back to you.

KEEP CALM and JINGLE ON

We survived Thanksgiving, Black Friday crowds, and climbing on the wet roof to hang lights. Now is the time to reflect on what really matters…

No, I’m not going to tell you what should be on the top of your list. Everyone has different priorities and who am I to tell you what the answers is to “life, the universe, and everything.” (The answer is “42”, just incase you wanted to really know.)

I hope this holiday season you find yourself healthy and happy, in a safe environment, and have the ability to show compassion for those around you that are less fortunate. Happy Holidays!

Sacramento SPCA

Sacramento SPCA

Organizations like the Sacramento SPCA are amazing. When I have a spare day on my calendar I enjoy volunteering my time to help take photos of available animals for adoption. These images also help them increase a stock image bank for promotions and events. Every dollar they save that would have been spent paying for stock images is a dollar saved to help another animal. Just because you can’t donate a lot of money doesn’t mean that you can’t make a difference. Think about donating your time and expertise to help your local nonprofit organization.

Click!

The rain has soaked the lawn, the chill of the wind is cutting through my jacket, but I continue to click the shutter of my camera in the studio. It’s not that I don’t enjoy shooting outside in the winter, I do. However, I do get a kick out of temporarily “stealing” toys from my son or my nephew for a photo.
